Last week was a tough one! My job kept me equally busy and stressed out. I put in over 40 hours and didn’t want to do anything but have a glass of wine and sleep. I never thought it would be easy starting my own business, but this week I wondered why even bother. Thoughts like this in the past have kept me stagnant and hesitant to push forward with my goals. But I have decided to take a new approach. I am lucky enough to know a handful of entrepreneurs that have found success with their businesses. One such person is my brother, a lead systems engineer by day, co-founder of his own promo and marketing company and part owner of a night club-lounge. His grind inspires me. So rather than spend my time sulking and consumed with doubt, I decided to ask him for advice. I asked him to give me 3 keys to success.
3 keys to success
- Always strive to establish and maintain relationships. Networking is VERY important.
- You have to have determination and hunger for success because it is not going to be easy. You will have many failures, but the important thing is what you learn and how you rebound from your failures.
- Prepare for the worst. I look at it like the law of physics. Whatever goes up must come down. When you’re up, make yourself a cushion to land on for when business slows down. Brace yourself, or there is no coming back.
His advice put me right back on track and got me back into the right state of mind, back into grind mode. Lesson learned: when doubt consumes you, reach for the things and people that inspire you.
